Panama. As part of the activities to commemorate World Radio Day, the Ministry of Government of Panama, through the Directorate for the Promotion of Freedom of Expression, in conjunction with the Panamanian Broadcasting Association, organized the panel on "The Role of Radio in the Construction of Our Culture and Identity".
It was up to the Deputy Minister of Government, Carlos Eduardo Rubio, to inaugurate this academic activity, highlighting that open radio continues to maintain its place to which new interactions through social networks and multimedia are added.
The Deputy Minister stressed that minGob, through the Directorate for the Promotion of Freedom of Expression, works to create spaces for reflection and debate with different actors about the role of the media and social communicators, for the strengthening of democracy and citizenship.
For his part, the Secretary of the APR, Alessio Gronchi, pointed out that radio has been complemented through social networks and said that with events like today's "we are going to raise awareness among the human resource that works in radio."
This academic event brought together more than a hundred professionals and students from different universities in the country, who were nourished by the panelists: the sociologist Danilo Toro, the radio broadcaster Didia Gallardo and the journalist and teacher, Rafael Candanedo.
Didia Gallardo said that radio is a medium that is still in force but that it must be modernized and adapted to the times we live in, which is the time of technology.
Danilo Toro said that it is necessary to look towards the beginning of radio, because radio contributed reliably to the country's institutions. He said that his premise of work is that this country must be reinvented, as well as reinvent the radio that has the best experience in that matter.
Rafael Candanedo referred to the role of radio in national culture and its influence on the various audiences, as well as urged self-regulation as an effective tool for strengthening the means of social communication and the institutionality of the country, where radio plays its role.
