Latin America. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary in the region, Nickelodeon Latin America announced that throughout 2017, it will celebrate the history of the channel with special programming, highlighting the successes of the network during these last two decades.
The orange channel, which was born on December 20, 1996 with the mission of connecting with children and bringing them closer to the world through entertainment, has given life to some of the most recognized series and characters of these last two decades. Rugrats, Jimmy Neutron, Hey Arnold! and SpongeBob; live-action series Clarisa Explains It All, Kenan & Kel, iCarly, Big Time Rush; and Nick Jr.'s award-winning animations, Las Pistas Blue, Dora the Explorer, Go-Diego-Go and Los Wonder Pets, are some of the productions that marked an era and reinforced Nickelodeon's commitment to bringing fresh and innovative content to children and families in the region.
"Nickelodeon was made and designed for kids, putting them first in everything we do and for these 20 years, it has been concerned with making a difference in its content and the actions it takes beyond the screen," said Tatiana Rodriguez, Senior Vice President of Nickelodeon Group Americas.
In 2006, Nickelodeon ventured into the original production area by launching its first comedy series, Skimo and then was the first children's pay TV network in the region to introduce the novel genre with Isa TKM and then with Isa TK+, Dream of Me, Miss Quince, Grachi (seasons 1-3) and, more recently, I Am Franky, currently in its 3rd season.
This year a new format was added to the portfolio with the production Food Hunters, Nickelodeon's first culinary competition and the first non-scripted show. Many series resulted in successful versions for the global market, including Every Witch Way (adaptation of the popular series Grachi), which premiered on Nickelodeon US in 2015 with very good results and I Am Franky (adaptation of Yo Soy Franky) which will be produced entirely at Viacom International Studios, the production studios of VIMN Americas in Miami.
The network has also brought successful franchises to the region such as the Kids' Choice Awards with four versions in Latin America (Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Colombia) – which generated more than 640 million combined votes in 2016, ranking #1 and #2 in Brazil and Mexico, respectively during their broadcast.
Likewise, in 2016 Nickelodeon Latin America celebrated its first "Game Day" in Brazil and Mexico, whose main objective is to promote fun and play with the family, where more than 13,000 children and their families participated.
For Nickelodeon, pro-social actions, both local and international, remain part of the spirit of the channel with initiatives such as Nickelodeon Agents of Change, Transform Your World with Kellogg's and Nickelodeon Together for Good with Unicef and Katy Perry – initiatives that inspire kids to help make the world a better place.
Nickelodeon is a cross-platform channel, whose linear signal has a range of 89.4 million in the P4+ segment. In non-linear, it generates up to 36 million unique visits on its website (mundonick.com) and adds more than 15 million followers on its social networks.
