Mexico. The Plenary of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, agreed to submit to public consultation the Preliminary Draft Technical Provision IFT-002-2015: specifications and requirements for the installation and operation of sound broadcasting stations in Modulated Frequency ".
The provision would replace ift-002-2014, which will be in force soon, so it is necessary to have a technical regulatory framework that establishes the technical specifications that must be met by fm modulated sound broadcasting stations operating in the frequency band from 88 to 108 MHz.
The project that will be submitted to public consultation was prepared based on documentary analysis at the international level as well as field studies and includes, among others, the following aspects.
a) Possibility of reducing the separation between adjacent carrier frequencies of stations located in the same locality (at least 400 kHz), after analysis of the technical feasibility of the Institute.
b) Update of the technical parameters of operation of FM sound broadcasting stations in accordance with international recommendations and best practices, also considering technological advances and current scenarios in the field.
c) Establishment of operating parameters for hybrid radio stations in accordance with the digital radio standard adopted in Mexico (iBOC).
It is important to note that given the high technical content of the preliminary draft, various analysis documents that have been prepared by the administrative units of the Institute will be made available as part of the public consultation.
Once the public consultation has been carried out, which will be valid for 30 working days, the opinions will be analyzed to, if appropriate, propose modifications to the project in such a way that a robust technical document for the operation of FM stations in Mexico is available.
