Ecuador. Ecuadorians and soccer fans in the United States will be able to follow the matches of the Primera A of the Ecuadorian tournament thanks to the fact that the Ecuavisa channel acquired the broadcasting rights for that country, through Ecuavisa Internacional.
Teams included in the exclusivity agreement include Barcelona (currently ranked #1 in Ecuador), Emelec (#2), Deportivo Quito (#8), Cuenca Deportivo (#10) and Universidad Católica (which re-entered Division A in 2008).
"Securing exclusive broadcast rights in the United States for the primary dominance of these teams ensures Ecuavisa as the network of choice for Ecuadorians living in the U.S. and soccer fans, regardless of ethnicity," said Xavier Alvarado, CEO of the channel.
In Ecuador, football clubs have fought hard for international success. In 2008, LDU Quito became the first club to win an international title by becoming the champion of the 2008 Copa Libertadores and won the Recopa Sudamericana and the Copa Sudamericana, both in 2009. Maybe 2013 will be the year ecuadorian teams will win the opportunity to compete in the world arena.
