Since April 1, HBO is the first premium pay TV channel in America Latina that broadcasts in high definition (HD for its acronym in English) movies and series in prime time, 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
For HBO, Brazil is the spearhead of a project that aims to offer, Mid-this year, a 24-hour channel in high definition for all of Latin America.
Registration programming definition is transmitted using the compression format MPEG4 from Motorota, via the Intelsat 3R satellite, in conjunction with HBO's existing services for Brazil in definition standard and Digicipher II MPEG-2 format, allowing a superior image quality in brightness, contrast, resolution and observation capability on large screens, without lose definition.
Subscribers to the HBO high definition will be able to continue enjoying themselves of the Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound system.
The reception of contents in High definition is available through affiliates that are technologically capable of receiving the signal in HD. Users require a set-top box and a TV of high definition that allows them to receive this signal.
Growth expected important during the next year of this new technology.
