Mexico. As part of the public tender process, initiated by the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, to concession 10 MHz available in the band 440-450 MHz, to provide capacity provision services for private radiocommunication systems (Tender No. IFT-5), at 10:00 a.m. on 12 October, the tendering procedure began in its primary phase.
Five participants accepted the bids for the seven blocks that were at stake at this stage: 3 blocks with national coverage and 4 blocks with regional coverage.
In accordance with the relevant tender rules, the primary phase provided for an initial round and, if necessary, one or more subsequent rounds. Since only one offer was confirmed for each of the seven blocks in play, this phase concluded at the end of the initial round, at 10:30 a.m. With this, the bidding procedure for the seven blocks at stake was closed, with a total amount of positions that amounted to $1,773,500.00 Mexican pesos.
As of October 19, the date on which the secondary phase begins, four of the five participants, as provided for in their record of participation, may submit bids for the fourteen regional blocks not assigned in the primary phase, respecting the limit of spectrum accumulation foreseen in the bases for the secondary phase.
The winners of this tender will be able to provide capacity provision services to meet the private radio communication needs of third parties. This will help address an unmet need for more than two decades in the country.
