Argentina. Dataxis presented the updated figures of its global survey to Q2 2015. The Pay-TV market in Latin America already exceeds 69 million subscribers, equivalent to a penetration of 37.7% of total households. The segment was impacted by a rarefied economic environment, which translated into an annual growth rate of only 5%.
Although satellite Pay-TV once again leads the ranking of technologies with 50.1% of total subscribers, it exhibited a lower growth rate that took the weight off its share. tvis points out that 80.3% of subscribers have some digital pay-TV alternative, while HD already reaches a penetration of 32.9% of total subscribers.
The seven largest markets in Latin America account for 86.6% of subscribers: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela. Brazil is presented as the market with the highest number of Pay-TV subscribers: 28.5% of the total. Since Q2 2015, Venezuela is the country with the highest penetration by households; powered by the low-cost model of CANTV Satelital.
América Móvil is the group with the most Pay-TV subscribers in Q2 2015, with 21.1% of the total. It is followed in volume by DirecTV, Televisa, Telefónica and Clarín.
Subscription Video OTT services totaled 8.8 million active accounts. Netflix is the segment leader with 57.5% of the market. Meanwhile, Mexico is the country with the highest number of OTT accounts in the market: 45.5%
