The Sony DCR-VX2200E MiniDV Digital video recorder is a standard-definition version of the HDR-FX1000E, the successor to the HDR-FX1E. The camera improved in a variety of areas, for example its CinemaTone technology improved gamut and color.

It features three 1/3-inch ClearVid CMOS sensors, which capture images in detail even in extreme low-light conditions in 50i and 25p. Combined with a professional wide-angle lens and a high-resolution LCD screen, the camera is ideal for professionals who shoot exclusively in PAL format.

Additionally, the DCR-VX2200E is equipped with histogram and zebra functions. The first gives the user a visual/numerical reference to ensure that it is correctly corrected in color. The second function displays the most exposed images of the frame, giving the operator more control over the dynamic range.
