Colombia. The Communications Regulatory Commission, CRC , published the guide "PURPLE LENS: Good audiovisual practices for the elimination of gender-based violence", aimed at the audiovisual content industry with the aim of eliminating this type of violence by combating the reproduction of stereotypes that have a negative impact, particularly on women.
This document is part of the strategy to promote cultural transformation from the creation, production and circulation of audiovisual content, under social standards aimed at the elimination of gender-based violence against women and gender stereotypes that mainly affect women, framed in objective 6 of CONPES 4080 of 2022. "Public Policy on Gender Equity for Women".
For its elaboration, based on the study carried out by the CRC on social representations broadcast by open television channels in the country and in articulation with the project of Citizen Pedagogy in the Audiovisual Ecosystem, the Commission developed a rigorous exercise of participation that facilitated dialogue and collective construction with the involvement of various actors. organizations and institutions that made it possible to compile various practices that are benchmarks in the sector for the promotion of a more equitable, respectful and inspirational representation of women in open television in Colombia and, by extension, in other media.
As a result of this exercise, the guide "PURPLE LENS: Good audiovisual practices for the elimination of gender-based violence" was constructed as an essential resource for addressing gender-based violence in the audiovisual field, offering definitions, examples and concrete recommendations to help people, creators, operators, organizations and institutions to identify, Prevent and eliminate practices that perpetuate violence against women and other identities from their representation in audiovisual content.
"In compliance with the commitment made by the CRC in the technical roundtables developed by the National Planning Department (DNP) for the definition of CONPES 4080, we publish this guide that also allows us to advance in our work in favor of pluralism, equity and diversity in the field of content to guarantee an inclusive and fair media environment. fundamental for the construction of a more egalitarian and diverse society.
