Colombia. Continuing with the execution of the schedule announced by the ICT Minister, Mauricio Lizcano, for the arrival of 5G technology in Colombia, Final Resolution 3947 of 2023 was issued, which establishes the requirements, conditions and procedure that will allow Colombia to start the path for the timely massification of 5G technology in the country.
"5G is the window to the future and the present for the development and growth of sectors such as education, medicine, mobility and energy, among others, which makes it a unique opportunity to improve the quality of life of all Colombians," explained ICT Minister Mauricio Lizcano (@MauricioLizcano).
Within the conditions for the 5G auction, the MinTIC has designed blocks so that there is no monopoly and only one winner. Therefore, the ICT Minister extends an invitation to those interested to participate in this process on December 20.
The bands that are being auctioned correspond to remaining spectrum in the bands where 4G systems currently operate (700 MHz, 1900 MHz, AWS extended, 2500 MHz) and the 3500 MHz band. In the case of 3500 MHz, the band in which 5G technology will begin to be deployed, each of the 4 blocks available of 80 MHz has a reserve value of $317,717 million.
The processes for assigning permits for the use of the spectrum are essential to continue with the execution of the Connectivity Plan of the Government of Change, which enables the social and economic development of the country. Thus, the MinTIC advances in its objective of generating connectivity and technology to change the lives of Colombians.
