Colombia. RTVC consolidates alliance with Riot Games, developer and owner of the PC video game League of Legends (LoL). Agreement that aims to bring Esports to a mass broadcast platform, which expands and strengthens the field of video games and electronic sports in the country and LATAM.
This launch is given as a milestone in the region, since it is proof of the growth and relevance of video games, not only in the gaming community, but in other audiences, which have found in this industry constant development and innovation.
The LLA broadcast on RTVC is a broadcast on the official Riot Games channel and can be tuned in every weekend, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm, through Señal Colombia. This strip will have a program dedicated to traditional sports and one hour for the Latin American League of LoL, a championship that is played online in Mexico City, in order to protect the integrity of the teams, fans and staff that make the league possible, product of the pandemic.
Esports fans and video game lovers throughout the national territory will be able to enjoy the talent of the best teams in Latin America: Isurus Gaming (Argentina), All Knights (Chile), Xten Esports (Mexico), Furious Gaming (Argentina), Gillette Infinity Esports (Costa Rica), Azules Esports (Chile), Rainbow7 (Mexico) and Pixel Esports Club (Mexico).
"I love Esports, this new generation has a great knack for these games. I hope that before our government ends, we can have Esports as part of Colombia's sports. There is a world to explore and the Ministry of Sport believes it is precise what to include in the Colombian sports system so that it also has the benefits of other disciplines," explained the Minister of Sport, Ernesto Lucena, at a virtual press conference.
For his part, the manager of RTVC, Álvaro García, stressed that "sport is a powerful factor to unite and connect the country. The passion for sport that young people in the world live can travel through screens and digital platforms and that is what we want to make possible at RTVC. We will be able to bring all this high-quality content to all corners of Colombia," he said at a virtual press conference.
"This strategic alliance with RTVC will open two great opportunities: on the one hand, it will strengthen the sustainability of the LLA, but it will also help boost the dissemination of Esports in Latin America in a way that has never been seen in the region," said Raúl Fernández, general manager of Riot Games for Latin America.
LLA 2020 broadcasts through the communication channels of Riot Games, TV Azteca and ETC managed to gather 8 million unique viewers, 116% more compared to last year's league opening and 11 million total views, 74% more than 2019.
Additionally, 87% of the audience was connected to the League through Riot Games' own channels, distributed in several countries in the region: Argentina, Colombia, Chile (22%), Mexico (26%) and Peru, adding to the list the United States, as a foreign country.
This year's League final closed with an all-time high, 1.2 million total views and 150,000 simultaneous viewers, results that prove the impact of Esports, not only as a passion of a specific community, but a trend that is attracting other audiences and covering new territories of entertainment and everyday life.
"We hope that this important launch will be the beginning of more scenarios that promote Esports in the Colombian market and in other countries in the region, not only as an opportunity to understand them as another sport, but as a profession, which in the not so distant future will be as common as any trade," concluded Fernández, general manager of Riot Games for Latin America.
