Mexico. The System of Consultation and Pre-Analysis of Online Broadcasting Coverage of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, was recognized with the Second Place, in the Federal category, of the Awards for Innovation in Transparency 2019.
These awards are organized by the Superior Audit Office of the Federation (ASF), the National Institute of Public Administration (INAP), the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (INAI), the Secretariat of the Civil Service (SFP), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The System was awarded for its contribution to the promotion of transparency, access to public information and accountability; also, for being an example of the importance of the practice of open government, which translates into substantive improvements to the institutions of the Mexican State for the benefit of the population.
The platform was enabled by the Institute in 2018, in order to meet the needs expressed by the broadcasting industry in Mexico, the technical community and citizens in general to access information on: the infrastructure of broadcasting stations installed throughout the country; the coverages authorized to each station; and the localities and population covered by each station.
The Tool consists of two modules, one in the user can consult the coverage of AM, FM, or Digital Terrestrial Television radio stations, which have a presence in a selected locality; and another that allows to generate preliminary studies online for new FM radio and television stations.
The Coverage System also offers functionalities for the user such as downloading the simulated coverages in KMZ format to be displayed in Google Earth, consulting the technical parameters of the selected stations, as well as visualizing the radiation pattern of proposed directional antennas.
