It is well known that technology advances much faster than standards and the broadcast industry today is a clear example. With the evolution we are experiencing, there are many voices that ask for legislation to help clarify the panorama of the business for the future.
Some countries, such as Brazil, have created taxes for digital content platforms, which in the end end up affecting the citizen and do not generate a real impact on the industry.
In Colombia, where a law that transforms the regulator of the sector has just been approved, with the disappearance of the National Television Authority, ANTV, and the arrival of a new regulator, headed by the Communications Regulation Commission, CRC, one of the main criticisms has been because it was not addressed in the new law, regulation for digital platforms.
But neither from the technological, nor the business model, nor the regulatory, the future of the industry is clear. Meanwhile, in the region, channels continue to see advertising revenue decline, it's harder to retain high ratings, and pay-TV operators see subscribers go down.
The digital transformation of the industry has everyone looking for the best way forward. Innovation, original and quality content, are the first step.
