Colombia. With the allocation of $11 billion pesos (about 3.5 million dollars) to the eight regional channels by the Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies (MinTIC), projects in the genres of fiction, drama and comedy, among others, already have a "green light" for their production.
The productions were approved in March and, in April, the contracts were made. In this way, the Government seeks to generate high quality productions in order to promote and identify stories that allow to show the innovative, technological, scientific and social development of all Colombian regions, as well as captivate audiences on different platforms.
"This $11 billion is a significant investment for our public television, as it will allow regional channels to guarantee not only quality productions but also in various formats, so that Colombians choose and enjoy with pride the national content that represents them and can access it from their devices," said the Minister of ICT, Sylvia Constain.
"We will start with eight productions for the regions, which will be carried out by the channels Trece, Capital, Telepacífico, Teleislas, Telecaribe, TRO, Telecafé and Teleantioquia, responsible for executing that budget," added the official.
Additionally, the Ministry will commit in the coming days $ 12,000 million for co-productions through regional public channels in alliance with independent producers or production houses that they select, with the purpose of developing content that can be consumed on different screens.
These resources are part of the $29.5 billion package that MinTIC allocated this year for public television, the highest in the last nine years. It is important to remember that between 2016 and 2018 (3 years), the budget was $14,233 million, thus exceeding 50% of the investment in 2019.
