In 2018 Peru granted 587 radio and TV licenses

Peru. During 2018, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, MTC, granted 587 new authorizations to provide the sound and television broadcasting service, nationwide.

Of these authorizations, 445 will provide the sound broadcasting service and 142 television broadcasting, in order to promote education and national integration, in each locality of the country. Of the total authorizations, 80% were for commercial purposes, 16% for educational purposes; and 4% with a community objective.

With the authorized stations, in sound broadcasting services, during 2018, it benefited about 560 districts that favors more than four million people, who will have a greater variety of programming to tune in and listen to.

In that sense, 79 districts of 16 regions of the country, such as Amazonas, Ancash, Apurímac, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huánuco, Junín, La Libertad, Lima, Madre de Dios, Pasco, Piura, Puno and San Martín; with an approximate population of 280 thousand people will be able to tune in for the first time fm radio stations.

On the other hand, in terms of television broadcasting services, about 193 districts and more than three million 700 thousand citizens were favored. 34 locations will have for the first time VHF television stations and 40 districts from 12 regions, Amazonas, Ancash, Apurímac, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Cusco, Lambayeque, Loreto, Piura, Puno, San Martín and Ucayali; with a population of more than 190 thousand people will be able to tune into VHF television stations.

Focus on rural areas
More than 75% of the FM radio and television stations granted on VHF during 2018 are located in rural areas and of preferential social interest, evidencing the vocation of companies to invest in these areas, promoting social and cultural development, as well as the commitment of the State, through a simplified regime, with economic benefits for those who bet on these isolated localities.

Regarding the implementation of Digital Terrestrial Television in Peru, 78 stations with this signal currently operate in different locations in the country. This type of technology will allow citizens to have better image and sound quality, as well as a greater variety of signals and programming, among others.
