Brazil. TV Globo continues with the migration of its old playout automation systems to Marina de Pebble Beach. The Marine systems already installed at the company's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro generate Globo's main transmission along with Globo Internacional, and Marina's newest facilities are located in São Paulo, Brasilia and Recife.
Following the rio infrastructure model, the Marina system in São Paulo offers playout automation from three servers, with four ingest channels and 12 playout channels (four per transmission). The São Paulo facility generates the transmissions from the state of São Paulo and capital, and another facility in São Paulo is currently being configured to provide DR (disaster recovery) to the Rio, Brasilia and Recife operations with media synchronization and real-time playlists. The broadcast operations of Brasilia and Recife provide a channel to their respective local regions.
"After Marina's successful installation in Rio last year, we decided to continue migrating the old automation systems at our other transmission centers. Our goal was to better integrate our locations with a common workflow for each one," said Eduardo Ferreira, Director of Playout Technology and Distribution at TV Globo.
The standardized Marina automation platform provides powerful integration into Globo's regional playout centers, with real-time online updates of Globo's corporate systems. Marina improves operational efficiency with automated content sharing and strengthens disaster recovery preparedness. Globo's new file-based workflow eliminates all physical media for content delivery, confirmation, and playout, while fully automating media transfers and replay across sites and devices, in accordance with Globo's business standards.
"The Globo team considered several criteria, including Marina's ability to easily integrate with the interface of Globo's proprietary network planning system," said Marcelo Blum, systems manager at Videodata, a systems integrator responsible for recommending and installing Marina.
In addition to installing Marina from Pebble Beach Systems, Videodata also integrated Telestream's Vantage and Dolby's VM-600 as part of Globo's complete solution.
