Peru. The Advisory Council of Radio and Television of Peru, ConcorTV, presented its latest study that reveals that 65% of Peruvians prefer Pay TV to access audiovisual content.
The "Quantitative Study on Television and Radio Consumption 2017", a survey applied to 9,714 adults from 20 cities in the country, urban and rural areas, yielded among the main results:
- Television continues to be the medium with the highest consumption (98%), followed by radio (86%), newspapers (72%), and the Internet (66%).
- Television is considered the most informative (50%) and entertaining (57%) medium, but unlike previous years, pay TV (cable or satellite) is rated as more entertaining than free-to-air TV.
- 13% say they use OTT platforms (Netflix, Movistar Play, Claro Video, etc.).
- Radio is considered the most plural (29%) and neutral (27%) medium. The cities where there is a greater consumption of this medium are: Puno (95%), Huaraz (94%) and Cusco (92%).
- Newscasts and reality shows are TV's favorite programs: América Noticias Primera Edición (20%), Noticias 90 (18%), Este Es Guerra (13%), América Noticias Edición Central (12%) and Central de Noticias ATV (10%).
- 61% consider that the state media TV Peru and Radio Nacional have good programming, and with respect to the channel for children and adolescents IPe, this rating reaches 54%.
- For the majority of Peruvians, television negatively shows women (63%), older adults (56%) and children (56%).
- 94% indicate that there is some kind of control at home over what children and adolescents see on the small screen.
- 52% are aware of family hours (6:00 – 22:00 hours) and 48% know the right to complain about inappropriate content on radio or TV during that time.
