International. The Belden Group, owner of Grass Valley, announced the acquisition of Snell Advance Media, SAM, a news that will undoubtedly generate changes in the broadcast industry in the global arena.
Although the terms of the business and the value of the transaction are not yet known, it transpired that the Belden Group's plans are to integrate SAM with Grass Valley and leave all product lines under the name of the latter. Tim Shoulders will be the president and CEO of both companies after their merger and will continue to be headquartered in Montreal, Canada.
The Belden Group once again surprises the market with these movements in the broadcast world, which are not new. It is recalled that in 2012 it acquired Miranda, and in 2015, after buying Grass Valley, it brought together both companies under the Grass Valley brand.
Tim Shoulders, President of Grass Valley, said in public statements that "With this investment, Belden once again demonstrates our commitment to the broadcast industry. Adding SAM employees and products to the Grass Valley family expands our global reach, makes us more agile and provides even more domain expertise to enhance Grass Valley's industry-leading solutions."
On the SAM side, things are no different either. In 2014, Quantel acquired Snell and in late 2015 they made the name change to as Snell Advance Media, SAM is known today.
It is expected that during the next NAB Show in Las Vegas, more details of the business will be known.
