Peru. With the workshop on the Production of DTT Receivers equipped with EWBS modules, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, MTC, continues with its series of activities to promote the development of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) in Peru.
The event, organized jointly by the MTC, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan, the Embassy of Japan, the Japan Agency for International Cooperation-JICA and INICTEL -UNI, was inaugurated by the director general of the Directorate of Authorizations in Telecommunications DGAT, Luis Fernando Castellanos who stressed that one of the benefits of DTT is that it can transmit emergency alerts, known as EWBS (Emergency Warning Broadcast System), in order to facilitate decision-making in case of disasters.
It is important to note that since June 2016, the DTT stations with the EWBS system that were implemented through the "Project for the Improvement of Equipment for Disaster Risk Management in the Republic of Peru" have been operational in Arequipa, Camaná, Cañete, Pisco, Ilo, Lima and Trujillo. Thanks to the contribution of JICA, INDECI, IRTP and the MTC in these areas it is possible to transmit alerts for tsunami or other types of disaster such as floods, landslides or fires.
