Peru. The Ministry of Transport and Communications, MTC, announced that, during the year 2023, it achieved a record collection from the payment of royalties, reaching S/ 35,406,535.92 (About US$9.5 million). This figure represents an increase of 28% compared to previous years.
The payment of royalties is an obligation for all holders of broadcasting services and private telecommunications services. These payments contribute to the development of the sector, to the control and monitoring of the radio spectrum and to the fulfillment of obligations with international telecommunications organizations.
The Deputy Minister of Communications, Carla Sosa Vela, highlighted the importance of this achievement: "The increase in collection not only reflects the fulfillment of legal obligations by broadcasters, but also the commitment of the MTC to guarantee an efficient and transparent management of State resources. This increase will allow us to continue strengthening telecommunications services for the benefit of all Peruvians and thus achieve a more connected Peru," he said.
The growth in revenue also has a significant impact on citizens, as radio and television services remain in force, continue to grow and play a crucial role in the guidance, information and entertainment of all Peruvians.
