Mexico. For both the last baseball world series and the broadcast of the U.S. elections, two events of great general interest, Televisa used Haivision's Makito X equipment.
The games in the two host cities had a live broadcast quality HD, with commentators in the stadium where the baseball game was held and with drivers in the Television studios in Mexico City. Within the broadcast, Televisa integrated a pair of Makito X encoder/decoder, into the workflow, to create a live video video link, from the TV studio to the stadium, used as a signal return, which allowed drivers to monitor their work in real time.
The Director of the video links area, Engineer Alejandro Otero, commented that for this task, the low latency allowed by Makito X equipment was fundamental to have an optimal signal return, which allowed drivers and commentators to work very comfortably and synchronize perfectly with the studios in Mexico City.
In addition, for live news coverage in the last elections in the United States, they created a two-way HD video link, which allowed drivers to interact in real time, both journalists who were working in New York City, and drivers at Televisa studios in Mexico City.
For this task, four Makito X equipment, an encoder and a decoder located in each location were used, sending an HD video signal back and forth simultaneously. In the same way, the very low latency, of around 400 milliseconds, was a decisive factor in the work, as well as the portability, ease of use, security and preconfiguration tools provided by Makito X equipment for the transport of live video, stressed the engineer Otero.
And for the inauguration of the next President of the United States, Televisa will carry out live news coverage and the Makito X teams will be a fundamental part of the workflow, with which they plan to create several live bidirectional links between their journalists and drivers in the studio, using IP video over the public internet and not satellite or microwave links.
Engineer Alejandro Otero, responsible for managing the technical area that covers the work of microwave links and portable video backpacks, commented that they are very satisfied with the performance of the Makito X equipment recently added to their workflow, which respond to expectations and have the functions required by Televisa for the coverage of live events and for the creation of video links in a simple way. and at low cost, through the public internet, which has caused other areas of the company to be interested in the possibilities for live remote production, which they carry out efficiently.
