Mexico. After the successful relaunch of the Ibero-American Telecommunications Organization, OTI, held in Miami in April of this year, the Organization has been carrying out various actions to promote the development of audiovisual content and access to connectivity in the region, promote initiatives to address anti-competitive practices, review regulatory issues and defend freedom of expression in the countries of the region.
The results that have been obtained in this short time will be presented at its next Assembly that will be held on November 16 in Mexico City, as part of this meeting that will be led by the President of the OTI, Emilio Azcárraga Jean, and where the hallmark will be dialogue and the generation of proposals.
The OTI Assembly 2016, brings together 31 of the main Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking content and telecommunications companies located in 22 countries of Ibero-America and the United States. Through its Members, the OTI is committed to fostering cooperation in the different communities and populations where they operate and serves as an instrument for these companies to work in coordination for the benefit of their audiences and consumers who number more than 500 million people in the region, on issues of common interest, such as those to be addressed in this Assembly:
- Over the Top (OTT) ecosystems, the new post-election geopolitical situation in the United States, the regulation of the "must carry-must offer" figure, and freedom of expression in the region.
- These topics will be presented by renowned experts of international stature: Roslyn Layton, Academic of the Center for Communication, Media and Information Technologies at Aalborg University.
- Jorge G. Castañeda, Professor at New York University in the Department of Arts and Sciences and former Foreign Minister of Mexico.
- Arturo Valenzuela Academic and Director of the Center for Latin American Studies at George's University
- Laura Chinchilla Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression OTI, former president of Costa Rica, and head of the OAS Electoral Mission for the November 8 election in the United States.
Along with the OTI Assembly, the Paley International Summit, Mexico City 2016 will be held on November 16 and 17, one of the main independent forums that brings together the CEOs of the main media companies worldwide to exchange ideas in communication, entertainment and technology, as well as to strengthen the links between these companies.
The OTI Assembly 2016 seeks to impact these two events that promote change and innovation through dialogue, reflection and joint action.
