Mexico. The Plenary of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, authorized various (cultural) permittees to transition to the concession regime for social use provided for in the Federal Law on Telecommunications and Broadcasting (LFTR). This regulatory action addresses the provisions of the seventeenth Transitory Article of the Decree by which the aforementioned law was issued.
One of the permittees, the Veracruz Association of Popular Communicators, A.C. was authorized to transition to the concession regime for community social use in response to the fact that it accredited that the activities and purposes of its station in Teocelo, Veracruz are in accordance with the principles of direct citizen participation, social coexistence, equity, gender equality and plurality.
On the occasion of these authorisations, a concession on frequency bands of the radio spectrum and a single concession are granted to each of the applicants.
Similarly, the Plenary of the IFT decided to grant a concession to use and take advantage of frequency bands of the radio spectrum, as well as a single concession, both for social use, for the provision of the public service of sound broadcasting in modulated amplitude in the town of Betania, in the State of Chiapas, in favor of La Fuente de Poder, Educativa Indígena de Chiapas, A.C.
It is the first radio station that will exist in this town, which is why it is considered that this grant is very significant because it will allow the population to bring the benefits of broadcasting, such as the communication and dissemination of culture, as mechanisms of social inclusion.
On the other hand, the IFT Plenary resolved to approve two changes of frequency bands, 632-638 MHz for 566-572 MHz (Channel 41 for Channel 30), and 686-692 MHz for 536-542 MHz (Channel 50 for channel 25), both for commercial use. The first of them corresponds to the station with XHJCI-TDT badge and the second to the XHVTU-TDT call sign.
Both resolutions to change frequencies were derived from requests from interested parties on the occasion of the transition to Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) and are in accordance with the Work Program to Reorganize the Radio Spectrum to Radio and Television Stations.
