Colombia. On November 18 and 19, the third edition of the NexTV Summit Colombia was held in Bogotá, an event that brought together the country's subscription TV operators to analyze the current situation of the sector and the challenges for the coming years.
TVyVideo+Radio spoke with Ariel Barlaro, vice president for Latin America of Dataxis, the organizing firm of the event, who took stock at the end of the two-day day and the expectations with the penetration of OTT in the region.
About the event, he commented that "it has been very good, Colombia is increasingly involved in what has to do with OTT strategies, multiscreen and broadband growth. This year the event has found us with many more actors concerned about this issue, with all the most relevant cable operators in the market actively participating and with the different companies involved in this business from multiscreen and OTT. We are talking about air television companies, telecomm companies, subscription TV, DTH, OTT services, a group of companies that talked, shared points of view, reaching agreements and sharing strategic experiences. "
According to the latest Dataxis statistics revealed by Ariel Barlaro, Pay-TV subscribers in Colombia are increasing at a slower rate than in previous years, while OTT subscribers are growing at a higher rate.
"It's the same boom in all of Latin America. OTT subscribers are doubling annually and Pay-TV subscribers are growing at rates of 4%, so the sector is reaching a critical moment and requires new strategies, such as reaching the lower strata, "said the vice president of Dataxis.
He added that the OTT boom is based on solid growth, under a new model that is taking hold and that is the new forms of consumption. "TV operators are preparing, even on public TV as is the case with RTVC in Colombia, with all the implications that this entails," concluded Ariel Barlaro.
