MADRID, 30 Aug. (Portaltic/EP) -
Spotify has hired jorge Espinel, who has worked for the past four years on the digital strategy of News Corp and 21 Century Fox, as its new director of global business development. Espinel will replace Gerrit Meier, who resigned last October.
At Spotify, Espinel will be tasked with signing agreements with partners that can help expand the Swedish music streaming service. Reaching agreements with telecommunications companies or cable companies can be the key to your strategy.
Earlier this year, Spotify began doing business in two markets: Latin America and Asia, where it has yet to launch. It is not surprising to assume that Espinel, a native of Colombia, will begin his search for business partners in those regions.
Prior to joining Spotify, Espinel was closely linked to veteran Internet executive Jon Miller. Espinel worked for Miller when he joined AOL, and then again at Fuse, Miller's foray into venture capital, which he shared with Ross Levinsohn.
