International. Seeking to capture more viewers under the new forms of consumption, the North American network ABC is working on the development of an application that will allow you to see its contents through smartphones and tablets.
According to what the company revealed, this initiative is part of its plan called TV Everywhere, through which all cable and satellite television subscribers will be allowed to access their content anywhere they have their mobile devices.
With the restriction by which the users of the application can only be the subscribers of Pay TV, it seeks to face another problem that the industry has, especially in the United States, and that is that the number of subscribers has been falling because they now prefer to consume the video through on-demand platforms such as Netflix.
And although this becomes the first time that a North American network seeks to broadcast its contents through an application for new devices, initiatives such as Watch Disney are being replicated, an application that allows you to see on Apple devices all the contents of Disney, the latter company that owns ABC.
A specific date on which the ABC application is available has not been determined, it is rumored that it will not be able to be before the end of 2013, because it still has to negotiate with its local channels, who could be affected by this development.
