International. OTT services and applications will be the two fundamental aspects that will mark the smart TV market in the coming years, according to the forecasts of the consulting firm Gartner.
In its most recent report, it points out that the internet connection through televisions will no longer be the most attractive, as it was with the first references of this type of televisions.
Paul O'Donovan, Research Analyst at Gartner, explained that "in the end, the choice will be made about the additional content that a brand offers. Consumers will ask themselves questions such as what Internet TV services does television allow?, Are these the sites I find interesting?, or Can I use my 'smartphone' or 'tablet' with this TV?".
Gartner estimates that smart TV manufacturing will go from 69 million in 2012 to 198 million in 2016, and by 2013 the figure is expected to reach 108 million. In addition, the consultancy predicts that by 2016, 85% of flat-screen TVs will be smart.
The Gartner analyst stressed that the possibilities of connecting with computers, smartphones and tablets, as well as access to multiple Internet content, will enhance the user experience, which will benefit from interaction.
