Colombia. The National Television Authority, ANTV, authorized the Municipal Companies of the city of Cali, Emcali, to begin structuring the project that allows it to provide subscription television services in two departments of the country Cauca and Valle.
As explained by the regulatory entity in a statement, this decision is framed in Law 1507 of 2012 that seeks to open the subscription television market and grant users of these services new offers.
Emcali thus becomes the first company to take advantage of the regulations made on July 11 by the board of directors of the ANTV, through which it established the requirements that public companies providing telecommunications services must meet to obtain a subscription television license, through Resolution 048 of 2012.
The company's spokesmen indicated that they are currently in the process of technical tests, organizing the packages they will offer to the inhabitants of the two departments and finalizing negotiations with the companies that will provide them with the programming.
The idea of the company is to start the subscription television offer with 90 channels, plus six high definition, providing the possibility to subscribers to only choose the channels they want to watch and pay for them, without having to pay for 90 channels that they will not see, thus taking advantage of the possibilities offered by the IPTV service.
