Harris announced the introduction of the first solution-compliant mobile digital TV streaming ATSC proposed by LG ELectronics and Samsung. Harris' offer, to be released in November 2008, will allow broadcasters begin a rapid transition to offer mobile digital television.
Lg and Samsung's handheld device solution is based on in elements of MPH (Mobile Pedestrian Handheld) technology developed by Harris, LG and Zenith, and on the A-VSB system (Advanced Vestigial Sideband), from Samsung. These developments clear the way for electronics manufacturers start designing mobile DTV devices, and for the channels that broadcast on DTV proceed with confidence to build a new suite of mobile DTB services.
Since joining forces with LG and Zenith in 2006, Harris has acquired vast experience in design and implementation of mobile digital television in band, and has established a leading position in this field. The team of the three companies have conducted successful field tests demonstrating the reliability of mobile DTV technology in various cities of the United States, in extreme conditions for broadcasting.
Harris also announced that in August he will dispatch the exciter. Apex M2X ATSC, which may be updated in November for support M/H transmissions. This completes the mobile digital television platform. This solution is physically compatible with most ATSC transmitters DTV and supports the management and service elements of the mobile DTV standards, including the OMA BCAST. Additionally the solution integrates an IP transport layer, critical for future implementations of the ATSC M/H standard.
