Japan's NHK, Italy's RAI and UK's BBC are all collaborating to demonstrate the technology Super Hi-Vision, with live international links during the next IBC fair in Amsterdam in September. The system provides images of 7680 x 4320 pixels with 22.2 channels immersive audio. The demo will also be supported by Siemens, Cable&Wireless and Eutelsat.
During the demonstration, the content recorded by NHK in Japan will be mixed with live images taken by cameras in the central London. The feed will be compressed into MPEG-2 and transported by an ultra-wideband fiber link. Finally, the content will be broadcast from a server in Turin, Italy, through two satellite transponders provided by Eutelsat.
The contents can be viewed with an 8k x 4k projector in the NHK theatre of the exhibition, as well as at the EBU stand Village, via a downconverter for a 3840 x LCD monitor 2160 pixels.
