TV Azteca produces without tape... with Ikegami

With the use of Ikegami's Editcam DNS-33W camcorder and the acquisition of other products, the Mexican company makes its transition from tape to non-linear digital production.

TV Azteca, owner of two networks national television and more than 300 stations in Mexico, has chosen Ikegami Editcam as a broad production medium, designed to meet program creation needs Television. The new generation of Editcam, the DNS-33W Editcam3 Ikegami with 520,000 pixel CCD is a camcorder that can record up to three hours of DV50 non-linear digital video (50Mbps) on an 80GB hard drive inside a FieldPak2 cartridge or on RAMPak flash memory packages.

TV Azteca has also acquired 20 Ikegami DNE-31 FieldPak2 tapeless recorders for use in production mobiles, for sports programs, musicals and other special events.

Pickering also notes that Mexico is undergoing a transition to HDTV. Are starting to acquire HD for some productions, we are getting trucks for HD production of sports and in the study we are working to fully understand the aspects behind the construction of HD sets, lighting and workflows for tapeless production environments.

At NAB 2005, Ikegami showed his Editcam HD camcorder, which uses Avid's DNxHD codecs to record high resolution 1920 by 1080 HD images that can be edited in real time on portable systems and Fixed. Editcam HD uses a data range of 145 Mbps for provide 1080/60i, 1080/24p and 720/60p recording and playback using FieldPak2. DNxHD codec supports up to 220 Mbps for future Formats.
