In Mexico you are
carrying out these days, an ambitious television project that can
considered already, as one of the most important of its kind made
so far in the country. To do this, and after a tender in
which involved IBM, SunMicrosystems and Oracle among others, the Catalan company
Just Edit with its global VSN solution
(Video Stream Network) was chosen. With extensive experience
in Europe in the field of automation and digitalization of
TV, VSN was the solution of choice for the configuration
and installation of a complete and integrated system for digitization,
storage, cataloging, archiving, a dynamic website, and
the satellite transmission of the audiovisual heritage of the DGTVE,
General Directorate of Educational Television, dependent
of the Ministry of Education.
This project close to 4 million dollars, consists of the supply,
installation, configuration and tuning of a "System"
for 8-Channel TV Video Management (16 in second phase)
with 65 journalist terminals" in the same location
for a tele-educational system of distance learning (Red Edusat). The
project also contemplates the connection-disconnection between different
production and emission centers, remote control of systems,
online rundowns and search
of materials on the video servers of other TV stations. Needs
Main of this project highlight the automatic control of processes
without operators and remotely over IP, control of devices such as arrays, mixers
A/V, VTR's, robotic cameras and tape libraries. Likewise
the implemented system supports MOS, and the databases run on stations
SUN 12K with MySQL. The project is an integrated and advanced model, incorporating
digital signal formats for contribution by
video layer and computer network layer, which includes optimization
of resources, and the multifunctionality of the staff, based on the suite of programs
VSN from Just Edit. As all systems are
involved developed by a single supplier, a level is achieved
optimal integration between processes and a consistent workflow
and intuitive, in the areas of ingestion, storage, cataloging,
archiving, automation of central control, graphics and publishing
on the web.
Capture and digitization
It is required to digitize 15,000 tapes in high resolution with programs
20' finishes that make a total of 5000 hours of frequent use,
providing for a high-resolution MPEG-2 version to be stored
4:2:2 with variable bit rate from 15 to 50 Mb/sg nearline in robots
of computer tapes and low-resolution copying on video servers
MPEG4 online. The other game of tapes is the video library, which counts
with about 50,000 tapes with an estimated average duration of 60' that
they make a total of 50,000 hours of infrequent use. Storage
nearline will contain already digitized material that is not frequently used,
so it is not convenient to occupy space in online storage.
It is a material that is used occasionally, so it is not either
it is desirable that the scan be erased because it will have to be repeated.
To solve the problem, this material will be stored as a computer file
MPEG2 4:2:2 on digital computer tapes, using the new robot
SONY PetaSite with capacity of 60TB offered
a total storage of high-resolution video audio of 6000 Hours.
Online storage is based on disk arrays, nearline storage on computer tapes, and offline storage on existing videotapes. The application works transparently as the software manages the names internally of file and physical routes to the servers OnLine, OffLine ,Near Line and On-Air on their hard drives, offering the user a logical description by categories of the contents of the network, hiding the Explorer from Windows and facilitating content searches. Has an interface native in Spanish and supports Unicode characters.
Editing system
and post-production
The system is designed to be able to integrate any edition
of the market through a universal pluggin of own technology,
that allows you to redirect directly from the timeline of the video editor the
file generated in high resolution MPEG2 to the file system. The user
locate the clip by searching or navigating the categories
of the system at low resolution and you don't need to know your physical name
nor its location. These details are hidden from the user by the pluggin,
that sends the file associated with the user's selection to the timeline
of the editing project. In addition to integrating the stations of
Post-production Leitch existing in the DGTVE, the system
allows you to make edits to the cut on the material in low in any
of the 65 terminals. When the process is finished the user registers
the new material in the system indicating at least its name and category.
at this point the system sends the edl to the encoding server
which is responsible for executing it with the associated high material. The terminal of the
user who made the edit is released and can be dedicated
to a new edition. When the encoding server ends
the creation of the new material becomes immediately
available, being able to re-edit, catalog, transmit, etc.
Transmission system
on air
Each videoserver is redundant and includes a logo inserter module
and character generator that can be controlled from the playlist. It's a
PC-based system that uses a titration card. Allows you to prepare a
virtually infinite number of logos. Any typography can be used
True Type installed on the system. It has 256 levels of transparency and
has analog and digital outputs (SDI) fill and key to perform
embedding with an external keyer by DSK.
Streaming systems and
Webcast
In addition to traditional emission, the DGTVE requires a system
of streaming by channel for its broadcast by internet, where the output
of each videoserver must be converted to streaming format for viewing
simultaneous via internet. Since the servers have output
Simultaneous analog and digital will be sent to the
satellite and analog transmission system will be used
as a source for streaming. Encoders perform transcoding
in real time to the most popular streaming formats (RealMedia and
Windows Media) with different bitrates simultaneously.
