Geoff Stedman, Vice President of marketing on Omneon, answered the following TV questionnaire and Video.
In what kind of
Applications are used Omneon products? Is there only one
product for everything? How do you achieve that flexibility?
Omneon systems are used to support ingestion processes,
emission and production. The design of Spectrum systems,
Omneon, makes them suitable for multiple uses, with multiple
interfaces for different types of requirements. The
internal management of the bandwidth that Spectrum has,
allows the system to support recording and playout in
real-time multiple video channels as well as interfaces
external that make it easier for the client to access the content inside
of the file system. Optimized for both asynchronous access
As an isochronous, Spectrum is ideal for supporting all types of
broadcast applications.
How do you know if a
IS NAS configuration better than a SAN in a certain application?
The difference between NAS and SAN is a matter of
complexity and performance. A SAN is usually more
reliable and more predictable performance, while a
NAS system offers simplicity and is easy to handle. Spectrum,
of Omneon, is unique in that it supports elements of both
Technologies. For internal system operations, we use
a dedicated SAN ensuring reliable data flow and
predictable for ingest and emission operations in time
real. For external access, the Omneon Spectrum appears as a
Standard NAS, which supports a variety of protocols such as CIFS,
AFP and FTP.
How is the administration
of a system of these? Are there qualified personnel in our
markets to perform this type of work?
As IT technologies become more
prevalent in the television and video industries,
improves the knowledge of the different technologies for
storage. However, a key to the best use
of a storage platform is the degree of simplicity of
the tasks related to its administration. The platform of
storage must be self-monitoring and self-repairing for
help operators. At the same time, it must be built
with enough solidity and flexibility to ensure your
operation, even in case of hardware failures.
