During the recent Sundance festival, Sony presented an XDCAM HD solution for film producers. The new line includes two camcorders and two decks. One of the camcorders, the PDW-F350, offers a feature of special interest to this market: the ability to record at a variable frame rate, also called over-cranking and under-cranking or "slow motion/fast motion" functionality. Both camcorders – the PDW-F330 and PDW-F350 – offer 24P recording in SD or HD, interval recording and slow trigger.
The same disc used in the standard definition XDCAM can be used in the HD version. Up to two hours of high-definition content can be saved to a disk. The workflow maintains the advantage of being IT-based, just like the original version of XDCAM.
The XDCAM HD enter the world of cinematography. Already several independent directors have used it in their productions and have been extremely satisfied.
