The author of this article suggests some details that you should take into account and how to order the work when equipping your study.

Study layout
The first thing to do is a global outline of the study. That is, a sketch that includes all the components that will integrate our audio chain in an orderly way, from the patch panels, wiring, consoles, monitoring. This scheme will serve as a guide throughout the installation process.

Then it will be necessary to divide the work into general sectors, such as "Study 1", "Study 2", "Control". Along with the different schemes of the study, help annotations can be added such as the amount of cable needed for each installation, footage, the number and types of connectors to be used, approximate time allocated for each sector and a list of equipment for each sector.

In addition, a fundamental factor in the whole process will be the labeling of each of the cables and equipment. These signs will be added to the scheme as they are made.

You can then see the importance of diagramming all the work in an orderly manner, before starting with the tasks of the installation.

Hands on
Wiring is usually what will take the most time and dedication, as it is going to be the "mainstay" of the entire installation. This process involves the passage of the cables through the different gutters, along with their "plating" in their respective terminals, which can be a pachera, a connector, or directly a processor. In addition, once this work is finished, it will be necessary to test each of the terminals to verify that the signal travels from one side to the other without interruptions.

Passing cables through the various pipes and then welding them to the connectors seems like a never-ending task but it is important that all the wiring is finished before proceeding with the second stage. In this way there are no "loose ends" that can generate future complications

Something of utmost importance is to label each cable on both ends. This greatly reduces the margin of error when a cable coming from another enclosure must be fitted. It will also be a huge help when performing maintenance routines since, although a person has not been during the installation process, they will still be able to quickly identify the different components, without having to waste hours on it.

The labeling should also be as explicit as possible. That is, it will not only include numbers of cables, but also words, such as: "compressor shipment 1", "studio monitoring 2", "VTR 1 ch 2".

Once this is finished it is time to present and connect all the equipment of monitors, processors, vúmetros, consoles, cd players, workstations, VTRs.
