AJA Video Systems demonstrated Xena DXT during the IBC 04 event. This new solution for real-time professional coding and transport uses Windows Media 9 Series (WM9S). Xena DXT offers professional frame accuracy coding over WM9S for the Windows platform in combination with AJA's proven HD/SD PCI hardware and Direct Show handlers, along with the new interface/management application over WM9S supplied by Durian Technology, Inc. The Xena DXT solution is useful for on-file encoding or point-to-point transport over cost-efficient IP links.
"After several years of working on various stages of integration with Microsoft, we are very pleased to offer a professional solution for video transport in WM9S for broadcast, cinema and corporate applications," said John Abt, president of AJA.
The AJA demo, at IBC, showed the transport of 720p60 HD video in real time, encoded by an AJA Qrez scaler and transported in WM9S on a 10/100 LAN, using two conventional computers configured with two Xena DXT cards. The use of the combination of WM9S and Qrez allows real-time transport for the playback of HD or SD video at very low speeds.
