Peru. OSIPTEL issued, ex officio, a precautionary measure that allows a group of pay-TV companies to broadcast the football matches of the Russia 2018 World Cup from the open signal of the Latin American Broadcasting Company S.A., Latina.
Thus, the Permanent Collegiate Body of OSIPTEL ordered Latina to enable the retransmission of its open signal, including the 32 World Cup matches for which said company has authorization, only to companies whose contracts were terminated by Latina, unilaterally, in the course of 2018.
This precautionary measure was imposed after detecting the existence of indications of possible anti-competitive conduct on the part of that television station, which would affect the cable television market.
The Permanent Collegiate Body of OSIPTEL has been investigating these alleged anti-competitive and unfair practices that would affect the pay television market, after the Peruvian Association of Cable Television (APTC) indicated its disagreement with the contractual resolutions that Latina had been making with several of its members.
Latina has direct authorization from FIFA for the transmission of 32 matches of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, which includes the matches of the Peruvian national team.
