Argentina. Argentine Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie signed the Reform of the Inter-American Convention on International Amateur Radio Permits (IARP), adopted by the Inter-American Telecommunications Commission (CITEL), whose presidency Argentina holds, a position held by the head of the National Communications Agency (Enacom), Silvana Giudici.
The reform aims to promote the development of the activity of Radio Amateurs in the current technological context by making procedures more flexible, in particular, the dictation of courses, entrance exams and promotion of categories. Accordingly, to facilitate access to the activity, it was sought to modify the administrative requirements established for the authorization of Radio Clubs and Institutions and their obligations to Enacom.
Likewise, the procedures and requirements for obtaining the International Amateur Radio Permit (IARP) by those Argentine Radio Amateurs who, on the occasion of trips or temporary transfers to foreign countries, wish to exercise their activity abroad, are updated. In this sense, the possibility of authorization of foreign radio amateurs to exercise their activity in Argentina is also foreseen.
The Inter-American Telecommunications Commission (CITEL) is an entity of the Organization of American States (OAS) that has technical autonomy in the performance of its functions, within the limits of the Charter of the Organization, its Statute and the mandates transmitted to it by the General Assembly, as well as the specific mandates of the Heads of State at the Summits of the Americas. It is currently composed of 34 Member States and more than 100 associate members, composed of companies from different countries of the Region.
Argentina assumed the presidency of the Permanent Steering Committee of CITEL in the new period 2018-2022, in charge of the president of Enacom, Silvana Giudici.
