Colombia. The National Television Board set the value of the extensions of the concession contracts of the operators Caracol Televisión S.A. and RCN Televisión S.A. The concessionaires must each pay the sum of $128,076,000,000 for the ten-year extension of the concessions for the operation and exploitation of the national channels of national private operation.
With the signing of the extension of the concession contracts of the two private television channels, these concessions continue for an additional ten years, counted from January 11, 2019.
The determination of the value of the extensions of the concessions was based on the analysis and recommendations of the consulting team of the National University of Colombia, responsible for carrying out the study for the economic valuation of the extension of the term of these concessions.
The figure that supports the value of the extensions corresponds to a model that analyzes various variables that, among other factors, took into account the income from the concept of advertising pattern, which for the 2017 term amounted to $ 917,000,000,000 in television.
This extension process began in the first half of 2017, at which time the concessionaires formally submitted the request for renewal of the term of the concession contracts. Immediately, the ANTV proceeded to review compliance with the conditions for the National Television Board to proceed to study the possibility of granting the extension of the concessions as provided for by law; conditions that are fulfilled by the two concessionaires of the television channels.
Once the decision has been adopted by the National Television Board, the concessionaires Caracol Televisión S.A. and RCN Televisión S.A. have a period of 15 days to sign the extensions of their concession contracts.
"This is good news for everyone. With the renewal of the concessions, added to the various actions that the ANTV has taken in recent years, today we not only have a stronger television, but also with more options for viewers, more national content, more entertainment, more education, more pluralism, "said Ángela Mora, director of the National Television Authority, ANTV.
