Latin America. After meeting in Bogotá, the FIFA Council approved the application of the latest changes to the Rules of the Game at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, among which the use of video assistants in all matches stands out.
The team consists of the video assistant (VAR) and its three video assistant assistants (AVAR1, AVAR2 and AVAR3). All members of the video assistant referee team are senior FIFA match officials.
Four playback operators select and provide the best camera angles. Two of them pre-select the most likely camera angles, while the other two provide the final angles chosen by the VAR and AVAR2 for each verified or reviewed incident.
A team of video assistant referees will support the referees during the 64 matches.
The video assistant equipment is located in a centralized videoconferencing room in Moscow.
The video assistant team has access to all relevant broadcast cameras and two dedicated off-game cameras.
The video referee assistant does not make any decisions; he supports the referee in the decision-making process and the final decision can only be made by the referee.
Football fans will be informed about the review process by the announcers, commentators and infotainment.
