Mexico. In the second quarter of this year, the telecommunications and broadcasting subsectors registered growth higher than that observed by the economy as a whole and continue to lead in dynamism since the second quarter of 2015, to the behavior of the rest of the industrial sectors in the country.
According to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) for the second quarter of 2016, the "Sector 51: Mass Media Information", constituted in 94% by the subsectors of Telecommunications and Broadcasting, registered a growth of 8.4% compared to the second quarter of 2015, while the national GDP grew by 2.5% during the same period.
This positioned the Information and Mass Media sector in first place in terms of annual growth, above other sectors such as "54 Professional, scientific and technical services", "52 Financial and insurance services" and "22 Generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, water and gas supply by pipelines to the final consumer", among others.
Thus, during the second quarter of 2016, the Telecommunications and Broadcasting subsectors jointly contributed to the national GDP with 485 billion pesos, equivalent to 3.4% of the national GDP, which represented an increase of 39 billion pesos with respect to the gross contribution of the second quarter of 2015.
In that period, while the GDP of the national economy grew at an annual rate of 2.5%, the Telecommunications subsector rebounded at a rate of 9.4%, reflecting the dynamism that has been observed in this industry during the last quarters.
