Colombia. During the last version of the Bogotá Audivisual Market, Hernán La Greca, the Argentine behind the change of image of Cartoon Network, was sharing with the attendees of the event the tips that a producer must take into account when looking for financing for their projects.
He indicated that although his suggestions may be somewhat obvious, there are many cases in which the basic elements are not taken into account and end up affecting any possible negotiation between the producer and any channel.
Among the topics to consider are:
1. Know your goal and business model: art or business? How will I get the ROI: by distribution, licenses or by digital?
2. Know your target audience very well: you must be clear about who the project is presented to and to which audience it is addressed.
3. Global vs Local: identify if the theme of the project is local, regional, so you can better understand the context to which the product is directed.
4. Do the Market Task but believe in your own intuition: the creator of the project must have the disposition to modify his productions, but never to the point of losing the essence of his idea. That extreme is frowned upon.
5. Think beyond the linear: today projects should not be designed only for linear television. Reality demands that projects link social networks, complementary stories on the web, interactivity, that is, apply the concepts trasmedia and crossmedia.
6. Be authentic: even if you start from a successful format, all audiovisual projects must have an aspect that characterizes it, that identifies it and makes it stand out from the others.
7. Do, share and show yourself: projects should be shown, have feedback to enrich the initial idea.
8. That it has some comedy, something unique, something local and that is relevant to our target.
9. Make a mistake: Creators shouldn't be afraid to make mistakes. If it is a job done conscientiously, with dedication and knowledge, mistakes will allow us to leave great teachings.
10. Believe blindly in yourself and the projects you promote.
