Latin America. Diego Gilles, responsible for gates Air's operation in Latin America, spoke with TVyVideo about its technological development and the projects it has. Currently, in Latin America the company has a direct factory point in Mexico, Brazil and Argentina, in addition to working with a network of distributors.
TVV What projects does Gates Air have at the moment in Latin America?
Diego Gilles: In Latin America we are working with new networks that have opened in Mexico, throughout the country, in addition to working with established channels such as Televisa, TV Azteca, and also with the public network that was developed in that country. In other countries we are participating in projects such as Brazil where the largest FM transmitter in Latin America of 80 kW has been installed; in Argentina, work is under way on several public tenders; in Chile we are approaching the project of the national digital television network; and in Colombia we work with RTVC. In Colombia there is a very close relationship with RCN radio, Caracol Radio and with different important radio stations in the country.
TVV In terms of technology, where is the company headed?
Diego Gilles: A number of new teams have been unveiled at NAB recently and new releases are being prepared for IBC to be held in September. In addition, we are participating in the ATSC 3.0 committee, in addition to the development of cellular technology, which allows television to be transmitted to new generation LTE cell phones.
TVV What are the trends, where does the industry look in terms of radio and television?
Diego Gilles: In television, a very interesting future is presented, because technology is about to allow that where before it was transmitted in a single television channel it can be done in several, which opens a completely different scenario from what was previously thought. And on the other hand, you have the effective ability to reach cell phones without consuming the capacity of mobile networks, opens a new possible business model transmitting video content to the cell phone but maintaining the normal operation of cellular networks.
TVV How has the rise in the dollar affected the company's projects?
Diego Gilles: What we can manage is our cost effectiveness. We are located in the highest range of products, there are other levels, but we aim to permanently improve the costs and the service offered to the client. In addition, develop new products permanently, being at the forefront of technology.
