Panama. The distribution of video to mobile devices and with higher resolution generates an increase in the demand for bandwidth that today has networks at the limit. Therefore, the industry has developed the HEVC, as an evolution of the H.264 offering a saving in band consumption that can reach 50%.
Gustavo Marra, director of engineering and applications of Ateme, who was present at the Tepal 25 congress held in Panama, stressed that the main benefit of the HEVC is that because it is based on software, it does not require a renovation of infrastructure or set top boxes for those who are already working with H264.
"Today users demand higher video quality and access it from any device. This generates some very important challenges for the industry that the HEVC helps them to supply, more now that 4K transmission is coming. For companies it will also help them lower costs in DTH and cloud DVR and allow them to be ready for demand growth in the next three years," said the Representative of Ateme.
The savings that the HEVC allows is one of the points that Gustavo Marra highlighted the most. He gave as an example that the costs of the CDN can fall by up to 75% due to the decrease in the demand for bandwidth, "you will have a better final result at a lower cost and its implementation is paid quickly thanks to all the savings it allows".
