Colombia. President Juan Manuel Santos inaugurated the Minister of Information and Communications Technologies, David Luna Sánchez; the Manager of the National Radio Television of Colombia (RTVC), John Jairo Ocampo Niño and the Director for Media Relations, of the Presidency of the Republic, Marilyn López Forero.
The officials took office in a ceremony held at the Casa de Nariño, in which the Head of State recalled the importance of communications for his Government and highlighted the trajectory of the three officials. He pointed out that communications policy is fundamental to the country's development. "To govern is to communicate. What is not communicated, what is not known does not exist," he warned.
"The one who does not communicate simply does not happen and that is why, more and more, especially in a world like today, where communications are changing at such fast speeds, where technologies are changing paradigms, the issue of communications and technology becomes increasingly important," added the Head of State.
On the other hand, the President referred to the commitments assumed by the new officials of the National Government.
"David Luna assumes a very important position, because not only in communication but also in technology – and there the effort that has been made is enormous – the results are really important. All that means a very important step but as technology advances many times faster than the ability of states to adapt to that technology because there is a challenge, Dr. David, really enormous, "said the President of the Republic.
As for the new Manager of RTVC, he said that "John Jairo arrives with very precise instructions: let's take much more advantage of those means that the State has precisely to communicate, to better communicate what is being done, to have a much more lively, more fluid interaction with Colombians through the national radio and television media. And there he has a big challenge," he said.
The President then told the new Manager of RTVC that "the whole process of launching the tender for the new digital technology for television will be completely free for Colombians."
As for the new Director for Media Relations, the Head of State said that it is not easy to manage journalists but it is fundamental.
