Colombia. Within the process of building a convergent regulatory framework for communications services, the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) issued new standards to promote better quality television services in Colombia.
The Commission issued Resolution CRC 4735 of 2015, which establishes the comprehensive quality regime for television services, compliance with which must be given as of January 2016. This measure covers the operators of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), cable and satellite television, and determines, among other aspects, the minimum conditions that operators must meet in terms of service availability.
Among other topics, the Resolution talks about the conditions for high-definition content, the quality indicators of the service of open television broadcast digital terrestrial, by cable HFC analog, digital, satellite and IPTV.
The provisions adopted correspond to the first stage of the comprehensive review process that the CRC has been developing in terms of quality of communications services, in which it is also planned to incorporate other regulatory measures that allow to know in greater detail the real experience of the users of these services, mainly for data services.
