Latin America. After a decade of technological development, the Norwegian company Appear TV, is dedicated to strengthening its presence in Latin America with its four product segments all focused on video distribution under new technologies, such as digital television and OTT.
The company arrived in the region five years ago. Today, at the head of the Latin market is the Mexican Sergio Rentería, who told TV Y VIDEO what the plans are.
"Our main market is Europe. In Latin America we have gained presence in Mexico, Argentina mainly, and we target the markets of Colombia, Peru and Central America. We already have 150 headers for digital television installed," he said.
He added that the interest in the region is mainly based on the implementation of digital television, because this process has been much faster than in Europe and they have the experience of adoption in the old continent. In addition, because there is an interest in adopting new technologies in general.
Another segment in which the company is strongly developing its technologies has to do with OTT and multiscreen distribution. "Distributing live or on-demand channels to any device is a complex process because different aspects converge. We are presenting solutions that allow us to facilitate the provision of this service."
On that aspect in Latin America, he said that there are few facilities although he acknowledged that there is a growing interest on the part of channels and TV operators in the region to adopt it. "The Latino market is becoming more mature. Today the decision to acquire a new technology is difficult because of the variety of equipment and systems that are on offer."
Finally, he indicated that Appear TV is working on video transmission solutions over IP for Brazil, as this is the country that is most advanced in the penetration of 4G networks.
