Colombia. A new subscription television operator with packaging of services, that is, television, internet and telephony, would have Colombia in the coming months with the interest expressed by the Mexican Totalplay in the Colombian market.
In statements to media in that country, the CEO of Totalplay, Samer Salameh, said that they are waiting for favorable conditions in the country to start providing these services, because the company has a branch in Colombia since 2011 when it won a fiber optic auction.
But the road is not easy and the arrival still depends on how the Colombian government promotes competition in the telecommunications sector. In his statements, the executive assured that new legal and regulatory conditions are required that allow new operators to enter to make direct competition to those already established.
He added that Colombia is a country that in recent years has had a lot of growth and that is why they are very interested in entering the local market strongly, but expressed his concern that among the companies in the telecommunications sector there are many lawsuits and litigations currently.
If the arrival of Totalplay with its packaging services materializes, it would enter to make direct competition to the operators that have a large portion of this market in the main cities of Colombia: UNE, Telmex and Movistar.
Totalplay is a company created by the Mexican production company Azteca and Grupo Salinas to handle the entire packaging business.
