Peru. Users of fixed and mobile telephony, cable TV or internet can request the temporary suspension of their services, whether individual or packaged (duos or trios, for example), to operating companies for up to two months per year of service without generating charges for that period, explained the Supervisory Body for Private Investment in Telecommunications, OSIPTEL.
According to the regulator, the request for temporary suspension of the service is free and can be applied for a minimum period of 15 days up to a maximum period of two consecutive months or not, per year of service. "During the requested suspension period, the operating company should not charge for the service," explained the director of User Care and Protection of the regulator, Tatiana Piccini.
What is the procedure for requesting temporary suspension?
The request for temporary suspension can be submitted to the operating company by the owner of the service through any of the available service channels. The company will have a period of up to five working days to make it effective, unless the subscriber has indicated that said suspension is made at a later date.
Reactivation of the service
The reactivation of the temporarily suspended service at the request of the user is automatic, when the requested deadline is met. Once the reactivation has been carried out, the corresponding billing will begin. "The operating company may apply a rate for the reactivation, which must inform the user at the time the request for temporary suspension of their service is made," the official added. In addition, users have the possibility to request the reactivation of the service before the required period ends.
