Uruguay. Teledoce is based in Montevideo, and produces a variety of news, sports and entertainment content from its six studios. Now with just over three hundred employees, this private national broadcaster has been on air since 1962 and currently offers over twelve hours of live programming every day.
One of the leading programs is Telemundo, a news program that airs three times a day, with the evening program being the most popular. When the team behind Telemundo decided to update the show's appearance, they called Ross.
"One of the biggest challenges for us was how to update the studio and give it an innovative and contemporary look, but create a space that could be multi-format, that is, used for different segments and even for different shows," said Andrés Lapi, Technical and Operations Manager at Teledoce. "Our team had met with Jorge Sobenes, (Ross Regional Sales Manager for South and Central America) some time ago, so I called him and explained our problem. This is how we came to the decision to use LED displays with Ross XPression and XPression Tessera graphics to render the graphics. LED displays give us great flexibility – we can organize the displays into different configurations and use XPression to power them with great-looking graphic content and XPression Tessera always makes the displays look like a single canvas."
Since flexibility is becoming an increasingly important issue in broadcasting, investments must be made very carefully. "The studio space is obviously valuable real estate and if we have the ability to use that space for multiple applications, that's very attractive," Lapi said. "Not everyone can afford to build a dedicated hard drive for a show that stays in place for years, so we have to be more agile. I am very pleased with the result: led displays have opened up some amazing creative options and we have a great team of graphic designers who have really embraced this new solution and are producing wonderfully attractive images."
The end result is important, of course, but the process to achieve it is also important, and Lapi enthusiastically praises Ross' team. "The closeness of the sales team, the constant help and the quick attention were very impressive. Ross' online communities were also very helpful and we have found it easy to get quick answers to our questions. Once we decided on the right direction, everything went very well and stress-free. Our solution is robust, easy to use, gives us a lot of creative options, and has definitely made our workflows more efficient."
